Did you know an estimated 1.2 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness. Yet less than 20% will receive appropriate treatment. By age 25, approximately 20% of Canadians will have developed a mental illness. Mental illness can happen in any family, disregarding education, income, or situation. And that could hurt our society as a whole.
Anxiety, depression, autism, hyperactivity, communication challenges are some of the illness that can hinder your child’s development and learning. However, early detection and treatment would enable your child to grow up as competent and healthy as others.
Today, approximately 5% of male youth and 12% of female youth, age 12 to 19, have experienced a major depressive episode. The total number of 12-19 year olds in Canada at risk for developing depression is a staggering 3.2 million.
